Open Heart Surgery Pt.3: Early Release Coming Soon!

“If I can just fulfill my purpose, and touch the heart of an individual to a point where they see that their life has meaning then I will consider my own life to have been worth something.” -B.Holy

B.Holy, born Brandon Owens, is a native of Dallas, TX as well as an up and coming musician who communicates lyrically from a Christian perspective. Though every song may not be heavily worded with scripture, he makes it very clear who he believes in and what his faith system is. Life changing, creative, honest and mature are a few words that have been spoken to describe the music that comes from the heart of B.Holy. In his music you hear a sincerity and certain substance that is lacking in a lot of hip hop. He is an artist that is not ashamed to be transparent believing that -If people can't see that they aren't the only ones dealing with issues, then they won't believe that there is any hope. So I choose to lay it all on the line trusting that the listener will see that I too deal with everything that life throws my way, but I don't choose to take it in my own hands...I choose to put it in the hands of Jesus Christ.-

B.Holy released his debut album (Attached To The Vine) in May of 2009. In 2010 and 2011, he released two of his three part - Open Heart Surgery -Mixtape series (Open Heart Surgery & Open Heart Surgery Pt.2: ReKovery Room). Currently a second album is in the works which is aptly titled -Transparency-. In this album, the artist delves into his personal life to give the listener an expose of the trials and triumphs he has faced from childhood until now. - Transparency -will be followed up by the third and final installment from his Mixtape series - Open Heart Surgery Pt.3: Early Release -.

B!Creativity Interview
When did you first know that you wanted to make music for a living?

I believe it was back in high school that I realized that music was something I could see myself doing for a lifetime. I was fortunate enough to witness the -Golden Era- of hip hop. The West Coast had it going with Tupac, Dre, Snoop, The Dogg Pound, Luniz and Pharcyce and then the  East Coast had it going with Wu-Tang, Busta Rhymes, Jay-Z,DMX just came on the seen and then the whole  Bad Boy camp was strong. The South was coming hard with Outkast, No Limit (at the time...lol),UGK, Scarface, etc. So with all of that good music going on at the time you couldn't help but FEEL it. But I remember like recording songs from the radio on a tape, and one of my favorite songs was -Soul Food- by Goodie M.O.B. Man I would listen to that song over and over again until i had everyones verses memorized! I think that's when I realized that I want to do music.....it just feels right when I'm doing it...like this is apart of my purpose in life.

Can you tell me a little more about the Open Heart Series? Where did the title come from?

Sure. Open Heart Surgery is a series of mixtapes that I began working on in 2009. Basically the name came from the title track on the first mixtape and I named the song -Open Heart Surgery- because it was my first time writing a song that really made me be transparent. In the song I talked about the absence of my father (smh), fear and how I let fear drive me from some great relationships with women I've dated...crazy. So yeah that track lead me to title the mixtape series -Open Heart Surgery- because I wanted to use the mixtapes to be able to speak out, confront and confess things about myself with hopes that through speaking out, I would begin with the help of Jesus to resolve those inner issues and eventually be healed. Come to find out that those who have heard the mixtapes are able to identify with at least one song and that makes it worth putting myself out there because music can be therapy. I'll be working on part 3 of the mixtape series this summer Lord willing

What do you want people to take from your music when they hear it?

The thing that I want people to take from my music is sincerity and hope. I want people to see an artist that goes through tests and trials and have won some and lost some, but at the end I have hope because it's solely in Christ. I want people to say, -Dang! He's gone through all that and he's still holding on to his faith?- And the answer is a resounding YES! Because without my faith I don't have anything.
Matthew 12:21 -And His name will be the hope of all the world.-
